Short answer: absolutely.
I can tell you from personal experience — cybersecurity has changed my life. It’s changed my family’s life. It has allowed me to speak to hundreds and thousands of people all over the country, all over the world. And one of my greatest joys is hearing success stories from people who started exactly where you are right now.
But don’t just take my word for it. At a minimum, positions like SOC analyst, GRC analyst, threat intelligence, pentesting, security engineering, and forensics start at around $55K. With experience and the right certifications, those numbers climb significantly. This is an industry where your skills directly translate to earning potential.
Now — is it easy to get in? No. Let me keep it real with you. There are millions of people who don’t have a job right now. The market is competitive. But what I’ve seen over and over is that the people who put in the work, who build their skills, who show up and stay visible — they get in. And once you’re in, the growth potential is incredible.
I used to sit in business development meetings thinking, “As soon as they hear me say my name — Tyrone — we’re not going to get this deal.” Now? It’s “Everybody be quiet and let Tyrone talk. Let him cook.” That confidence didn’t come overnight. It came from stacking knowledge, building relationships, and doing the work.
One day, you are going to realize who you are. And it’s going to feel amazing. Remember that.
What you’ll take away:
- Entry-level cybersecurity salaries ($55K+) and growth potential with experience and certs
- The market is competitive but not impossible — persistence and visibility get you in
- Building confidence through stacking knowledge and relationships over time
- The power of self-realization — one day you’ll understand your own value
Something to think about:
What moment in your life helped you realize something important about yourself? How can you create similar moments in your cybersecurity career journey?
– Tyrone
