Welcome. I’m Tyrone E. Wilson — founder and CEO of Cover6 Solutions and the person behind the Cover6 Academy. I’ve been in IT and cybersecurity since 1996, when I joined the military right out of high school. Two deployments to Iraq, time at U.S. Cyber Command, and eventually building a cybersecurity company from the ground up.
I started a meetup group called the D.C. Cybersecurity Professionals back in January 2012. First meeting — six people in a room. I was hoping to get 100 members. Now we have almost 10,000 and we’ve delivered over 200 sessions. Along the way, members kept telling me to package up what I was teaching into courses and workshops. For a long time, I didn’t think anyone would pay to learn from me. But they did. And here we are.
This course is the starting line. It’s free because I believe everyone deserves access to the information that can change their life. Whether you’re a career changer, a student, active duty military, or just curious — you’re in the right place.
Everything in this course comes from real experience. I’m not reading from a textbook. I’ve been on the Blackhawk doing security assessments in Iraq. I’ve sat in SOCs, led pentesting engagements, and I’m currently pursuing my OSCP. I’ve burned out. I’ve come back. And every time I come back to this community, life starts getting good again.
What you’ll take away:
- Who Tyrone is and what drives his mission with Cover6 Solutions
- Why this course is free and who it’s designed for
- Real-world cybersecurity experience from military to boardroom
- The Cover6 community story — from 6 people to nearly 10,000 members
Something to think about:
What’s one person or organization that has already changed your life? How did they do it, and how might you pay that forward to others just starting their cybersecurity journey?
– Tyrone
